California City Renaissance Festival
On September 26, 27 and 28, 2003, the California City Art Commission
and the East Kern Historical Museum Society presented the first California City
Renaissance Festival in California City's Central Park. The Greyhounds of Fairhaven
were one of the initial groups to sign up to participate in this first-year
event.
The California City festival gave us the second chance to use
our new pavilion, and the first chance to use the brand new toy hauler two of
our members purchased to help move gear, and provide us with a shower, kitchen
and additional sleeping space. The toy hauler's air conditioner was greytly
appreciated by human and hound alike due to the unseasonably high temperatures
(it was 105 degrees on Saturday, humid with no wind). At night, the hauler's
heater came in handy, as the temperatures dropped dramatically.
Patrons braved the weather to come out to do some shopping, drink
some beer, see the shows (including Arizona's Gaelic Thunder Irish Music and
Dance group) and hang with the hounds. A number of really good vendors meant
that the Greyhounds of Fairhaven members spent more money than intended, but
what the hey... :)
